As the year winds down, the holiday season reminds us to give back—not just to our loved ones but also to our planet. At Kimble, our Recycling Tip Tuesday posts this December have contained practical advice to help our customers recycle responsibly while embracing the spirit of the season.
Giving Tuesday
On Giving Tuesday, we encouraged customers and their communities to give to their communities and the environment. Instead of tossing usable items, we suggested donating them! Clothing, electronics, furniture, and household goods can find new life through local charities, thrift stores, or community donation drives. By donating or recycling, you’re not just reducing waste—you’re conserving valuable resources and helping others in need.
Watch Out for Tanglers
Have you heard of tanglers? These are items like Christmas lights, cords, hoses, and plastic bags that can damage our recycling equipment. During the holidays, it’s important to remember that Christmas lights should not go in your recycling bin. Disposing of tanglers properly helps prevent costly equipment shutdowns and keeps recycling running smoothly for everyone.
Keep Recycling Merry and Bright
The holiday season brings joy, celebrations—and plenty of wrapping paper. But not all wrapping paper is created equal when it comes to recycling! Here’s how to make smart recycling choices.
-
Recycle: Cardboard boxes, plain paper gift wrap (no glitter or foil), and holiday cards.
-
Do Not Recycle: Ribbon, bows, and wrapping paper with metallic designs or glitter.
Pro tip: Save and reuse gift bags, ribbons, and bows for next year. It’s a simple way to reduce waste while keeping the holiday cheer alive!
