Can I recycle styrofoam (or a foam like material that comes in packaging with TV's, etc)?

Can I recycle styrofoam (or a foam like material that comes in packaging with TV's, etc)?

No, we do not recycle styrofoam. It should be disposed of in the trash. One of the reasons is due to contamination. It is often contaminated with food or drink, and it is difficult to clean because it is so porous. Styrofoam is one of those materials that doesn’t break down. It is a petroleum-based plastic. If burned it produces a highly toxic gas that we would not want mixed with other materials that are processed with heat.
